No more guessing: Dürr CTS offers a comprehensive in-house analytics service

Your air pollution control system is only as effective as the media inside it. Over time, catalysts, activated carbon, and zeolite concentrators degrade or become contaminated, leading to reduced efficiency, higher energy costs, and potential non-compliance. Dürr CTS offers a comprehensive in-house analytics service to evaluate the health of your system’s media. Our goal is simple: identify material degradation early so you can replace just the media, not the entire machine, keeping your system running at peak performance.

1. Catalyst Testing (Beads or Ceramic Media): The Heart of Your Oxidizer

Your catalytic oxidizer depends entirely on the chemical activity of the catalyst media. Dürr CTS brings over 30 years of experience in advanced catalyst formulations and thermal oxidation technologies. We are the only oxidizer supplier with a dedicated in-house testing laboratory to verify activity, surface area, and contamination levels.

  • Why test? Catalysts can lose effectiveness due to thermal aging or masking by contaminants. Our testing determines whether your catalyst can still achieve the >99% conversion efficiency required for compliance.
  • The service: During an annual preventive maintenance inspection, our technicians physically extract catalyst samples, ensuring they are representative and safely handled.
  • The benefit: Routine media testing is a cost-effective alternative to expensive stack tests and is often accepted by regulators as validation of performance.

2. Carbon Testing (Activated Carbon): Essential for Solvent Recovery

Activated carbon in solvent recovery systems is prone to physical breakdown and pore blockage. Repetitive thermal cycling, freezing, or high airflow can fracture carbon beads, while contaminants such as silicones and high-boiling compounds can block the micropores essential for adsorption.

  • Key lab tests:
    • CTC activity test: Measures available micropore volume to indicate remaining efficiency.
    • Particle size distribution: Identifies physical breakdown that causes pressure drops and airflow reduction.
  • The service: We recommend sampling every 12 months. We provide a sampling kit that allows your team to easily collect a sample and mail it back to our lab for rapid analysis.
  • The benefit: Early detection prevents bed compaction, high pressure drops, and energy waste.

3. Zeolite Testing (Concentrator Media): Protecting Your Rotor Investment

For Sorpt.X CD and CC systems, the zeolite adsorption material is the critical component. Over time, high-boiling substances can accumulate on the rotor, degrading cleaning performance and increasing fire risk.

  • Why test? To measure the current “load” of the material and predict the ideal time for replacement. Dürr recommends planning rotor replacement no later than seven years of service.
  • The service: Similar to our carbon service, we can send you a specialized sampling kit to safely collect zeolite material from your rotor and return it for laboratory analysis.
  • The benefit: Data-driven insights allow you to budget for planned exchanges rather than facing unexpected, costly emergency shutdowns.

The Value of Annual Inspections

While we offer mail-in testing for carbon and zeolite, pairing these diagnostics with an annual preventive maintenance inspection provides the ultimate protection.

  • Expert sampling: For catalyst systems, our technicians handle the complex extraction process during inspection.
  • Holistic view: We not only test the material but also inspect the mechanical integrity of the vessel, checking for leaks, corrosion, and component wear.
  • Process optimization: We fine-tune operating parameters based on real-time data to extend the life of your current media.

Routine testing verifies compliance, reduces operating costs, and ensures safety. Contact Dürr CTS today to schedule your inspection or request a sampling kit:
